Default Brake bleeding

I am going to flush the system on the grey car here soon. I noticed last year when I had it out sometimes the pedel was soft/would go to the floor. The fluid in it right now is from 2001 so its due.

Here is the write up I was going to use for it. http://bullittarchive.com/1003.htm

I was going to do method 2 for it. I was going to buy one of the hand pumps from harbor freight or northerntool. Anyone have any tips? I have only been on the other end (pedel) before and it was with my brother doing the bleeding on his truck. Needless to say his brakes always sucked. I am hoping to get the car ready for some auto-x this year. Also looking for suggestions for pads. The stockers are in there as well.

I've never tried it by pulling vacuum at each caliper. However I have used the power bleeder where you basically have what looks like a garden sprayer that you fill with brake fluid and a line and cap that attaches to the master cylinder reservoir. You pressurize the tank by pumping it up and the fluid moves into the reservoir. You go to each each corner and bleed the brakes till you see the fluid change colors.

I couldn't tell you on pads I just use Ford but I'm sure there are better for auto X.

I've used the the hand pumps before and like them pretty well. It's fairly easy to do by yourself that way. I'm about to do mine this week too.

Kornnut:

I have used a MityMite vac pump and a Motive Products pressure bleeder and I much prefer the pressure bleeder. The vac pump can pull air around the bleed screw and make it look like you are bleeding air out of the system when you're not really doing it. The Motive Products bottle is a weed sprayer with pressure gauge and the proper cap for the master cylinder.

motiveproducts.com - check it out!

For autocrossing, you'll be changing the fluid more often so a pressure bleeder is definitely the way to go.

Kornnut:

I am 99.9% certain that that is the correct one. Take the master cylinder cap off and confirm that there are three tabs on the cap/filler neck. If not, call Motive Products. FWIW, my bleeder came with the universal block and I ordered the Ford adapter. I'm on the road at the moment so I can't look up my receipt to give you the details/correct info.

I'm not sure which one is the correct one. I ordered the ford specific one from Summit and it didn't fit right but I was able to get the cap on most of the way and zip tie it down so it seals around the cap.
