Who has actually measured piston to valve clearance and what numbers did you find along with cam specs and RPM range.

16v
Comp 270s...stock pistons- .055-.060" at about 115-116* Intake Centerline...um...6500 ish I think Comp 270s...Mahle -18cc pistons, +1mm intake and exhaust, .068-.072" at about 114-115* intake centerline-7000 rpm VT IIs, stock long block, I can't remember the clearance, but I wanna say it was just over .065, with a 114* C/L -6200...waiting for a good tune 98 GT, stock L/B, Comp stage 1...(262s?) Plenty of clearance installed straight up. Don't know rpms... 5.4 L block, Crower IIs, +1 valves, GOBs of clearance...Straight up. No idea on RPMs 4.6, stock heads, Crower II S/C cams, I think a 114* C/L, .070" clearance...6700-6800 easy 32v Crower Stage IIIs, Stock Aviator longblock, .055 intake, installed at 114-115*...7100+....intake choking it. Ill let you know on my new build too, Nick...but Ill have reliefs...

Damn thats more info in this thread than all the other forums combined
![]() I am specing out some custom cams and I think my balls are bigger than they should be so I need a reality check. Matt it looks like many of those cams are installed slightly retarded which depresses me. I am trying to squeeze in as much duration as possible on a 110 intake centerline with the stock pistons but lower margin valves. I am thinking 0.060" is about where I want to be for other peoples motors but I will probably go as tight as 0.036" with mine. 0.036" is my quench height so the piston will meet the head at that point

LOL some big balls in here I wouldn't run anything tighter than .070 on the intake and .100 on the exhaust.

Big balls that are feeling a breeze at the moment.
I have learned quite a bit over the last few weeks and a 110 intake install centerline keeps popping up on the better 2V NA street/strip motors no matter what the cam used. |
